    FAQ

    Where is Rogers Pass?
Rogers Pass is the section of Highway 1 (Trans-Canada) that crosses the Selkirk Mountains through Glacier National Park, between Revelstoke and Golden, BC. It's the main road link between the Okanagan/Interior and the Alberta border year-round.
    How current is this information?
The status here is refreshed from DriveBC's official Open511 feed every 5 minutes. Official data can lag fast-moving incidents by a few minutes, which is why we also show driver reports below the official status.
What's the alternate route when Rogers Pass is closed?
The only practical detour is the Highway 3 route via the Crowsnest Pass — several hours longer and closed itself in winter storms. For most closures the realistic option is waiting for Parks Canada or DriveBC to reopen the pass.
What is avalanche control on Rogers Pass?
Parks Canada operates the world's largest mobile avalanche control program on Rogers Pass. Highway 1 is closed on a scheduled basis (sometimes with little notice) so artillery crews can trigger controlled slides above the highway. These closures are routine — not emergencies — but they can last 2-6+ hours.
    Is this site free?
Free to check, free email alerts, no account required. We run a small number of hand-placed local sponsorships — no programmatic ads, no retargeting pixels, no third-party tracking scripts, ever.
Where does this data come from?
DriveBC's public Open511 API (api.open511.gov.bc.ca) for road status, and Environment Canada for weather. We filter DriveBC events to the Rogers Pass corridor and classify them as open, delayed, avalanche-control, or closed.
Why might one direction show differently than the other?
Incidents like single-lane closures, construction, crashes, or slide activity often only affect one direction of travel. When westbound (toward Revelstoke) and eastbound (toward Golden) don't match, we split the banner so you see each direction's status independently.
